PairWork

Work with a partner. Look in the newspaper or on the Internet for a short news article that interests you, but don't let your partner see it. Then read the news article to your partner and ask questions related to the main idea and specific details of the article. Reverse roles.

Culture Note

Every language has questions words — Who, What, When, Where, Why, Which, How, etc. In English, the question word is normally placed at the beginning of a sentence. In other languages, the question word might be in a different position in a sentence.
Learn the question words in English and use them as often as possible while practicing the language.

Class Work

Form a group of three students. Make up a conversation. It can be on any subject, but it should have a main idea and five specific details.
Then make up five questions about your group's conversation. One of these questions should be “What is the main idea?”The other four questions can be related to details discussed in the conversation.
One group comes to the front of the classroom and role-plays their conversation to the class. They then ask their five questions.
The group that can answer the most questions of the first group then has a turn to come to the front and role-play their conversation. Continue until all groups have presented to the class.
